Computer viruses: All you need to know

Computer viruses: All you need to know In 1949, when computing was just about a decade old, Hungarian-American scientist Johnvon Neumann theorised the possibility of writing a self-replicating program, which later came to be known as a computer virus. These programmes, which need a host to function, are designed to make unauthorised and undesirable modifications in infected computers.Initially, viruses were designed and tested in university computer labs. The first virus that went 'in the wild' -outside the lab computer in which it was designed -- was Elk Cloner which was written by Richard Skrenta, a school student in the US. Viruses written during the period were spread through floppy disks and hence never caused a major security threat. 1. Since when are viruses being spread through the internet? The first major attack was in 1999 when an American, David L Smith, designed the Melissa virus (named after an exotic dancer) that could spread through email. It r...

Top 10 trending phones of week 20 21 MAY 2017 The last seven days saw a healthy shake at some positions. While Galaxy S8 maintains its lead for an 8th week in a row and is still accompanied by the Redmi Note 4 and the Galaxy J7 Prime on the rostrum, three Xiaomi devices occupied the next four positions. Yes, you read that correctly. Xiaomi launched the affordable Redmi 4 in India, but this device isn’t the phone that was released last year in China. Instead, it's just like the Xiaomi Redmi 4X, which was just launched in China. There are some minor improvements in the Indian device, including Bluetooth version and ever so slightly updated Snapdragon chipset. The two versions occupied fourth and fifth place in our weekly chart. The even more affordable option Redmi 4a is also loved by many and that's why it stays at sixth. Then another Xiaomi - the recently launched flagship Mi 6, sits at seventh. The rest of the Top 10 list is filled with familiar devices. One of them, the iPhone 6 on 10th, is the only non-Samsung or non-Xiaomi smartphone in the list. Check out the list below how devices stack in our weekly chart and how they moved during the past week. LG G6 vs. Galaxy S8 vs. Xperia XZ Premium: Three's a company

Image
It's pick-a-flagship time and these are probably the three best phones of the season. The Samsung Galaxy S8 and the LG G6 are already available worldwide, while the Xperia XZ Premium is just about starting to hit the shelves - so it won't be all that painful a wait if the phone proves worthy. The HTC U 11 would've felt right at home here too, but it was only announced a day or so ago and we've barely gotten a glimpse of it. As if these 3 massive egos aren't too hard to handle already. Anyway, the HTC U 11 will have a chance to prove its worth, that's for sure. The Xperia XZ Premium enters this fight with the fastest smartphone camera in existence - it can record videos at up to 960 frames per second (not even an entire second, but more on that later). It's also got the highest-res display of them all - Sony was the first to take the plunge into 4K with the Z5 Premium and, a year and a half later, the XZ Premium is only the second phone that goes beyon...
